Quarter 3 - Playing Assessment

All members of the Gold Concert Band will be tested over their concert band music during the third quarter.  Students are responsible for preparing the following pieces for their assessments:

·         Peacemaker March

·         Within These Castle Walls (movements 1, 2 and 4)

·         Deer Path Dances

The procedure for testing these pieces will be as follows:

1.      All students in Gold Concert Band are required to test the pieces listed above.  The piece should be prepared from beginning to end, as the director may ask for a student to only perform a specific excerpt or the piece in its entirety.  This means students have prepared pitches, rhythms, articulations, dynamics and phrasing/expression at the appropriate tempo.

2.      All students must earn at least a ‘C’ on their performance.  Students not meeting this standard will be required to retake their assessment.

3.      All tests will be worth 50 points and be counted as a summative grade.

4.      Students will perform the pieces individually for their specific director:  brass players with Mr. Harris, woodwind players with Mrs. Culver and percussionists with Miss Lambert. 

5.      Students will perform the each selection at the specified tempo:

·         Peacemaker March:

·         Within These Castle Walls

o   Movement 1:

o   Movement 2:

o   Movement 4:

·         Deer Path Dances:

6.      All teachers will post available testing times on their individual bulletin boards.  Students must check these areas for testing times.

7.      Students are permitted to test the pieces in any order they choose, however they must complete playing tests according to the following timeline:

·         Test #1:  Completed by Wednesday, February 4, 2015.

·         Test #2:  Completed by Friday, February 13, 2015.

·         Test #3:  Completed by Friday, February 20, 2015.
